I'm fundraising for... Neuroblastoma AUSTRALIA
I have set myself a personal challenge for 2025 and I am taking part in Run2Cure Neuroblastoma. Run2Cure is a charity fun run and raises funds for the aggressive childhood cancer neuroblastoma.
My dear friend and her family have been affected by Neuroblastoma, and I want to raise awareness and funds in support of their precious daughter Chloe.
Chloe who is just 3 years old has been recently diagnosed with Stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer affecting young children.
While on holidays with her family Dad (Adam), Mum (Fiona) and sister (Anna 6) up the Qld coast, Chloe had a fall in the playground. After her fall she was complaining of a sore tummy which led her mum to request a scan at the local emergency department. Within 12 hours Chloe and her mum were flown down by the royal flying doctors to Qld Children's Hospital Brisbane. There they found out the devastating news that Chloe had a 6cm tumour near the back her of abdomen.
Chloe must undergo at least 18 months of grueling treatment including Chemotherapy, surgery and radiation.
Some facts about Neuroblastoma:
🎗Neuroblastoma is a cancer of types of cell nerve tissue called neuroblasts. Neuroblasts are young nerve cells mostly found in:
• the adrenal glands (near the kidneys)
• the tissues around the spinal cord in the neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis.
• Many neuroblastomas start in the adrenal glands.
🎗Neuroblastoma is most common in infants and children under five years of age. It is rare in children over 10 years old and very rare in adults.
🎗Neuroblastoma is one of the rarest and deadliest childhood cancers.
🎗While only 7% of Australian kids diagnosed with cancer have neuroblastoma, it is the cause of 15% of all childhood cancer deaths.
🎗Survival rates are low, at around 50% for aggressive neuroblastoma.
🎗At present, only 1.4% of Australian Government funding for cancer research goes to Neuroblastoma. In 2022 the NHRMC invested $2.18 million in Neuroblastoma research, which compares to $141 million in adult cancer research.
🎗Childhood cancer, more broadly, receives only 10% of government funding.
In addition to pursuing my personal goal, I’m determined to make a difference in the lives of young children in need. If you’re able to contribute, whether it’s a few dollars or more, I would be deeply grateful. Thank you so much for your support—it truly means the world!
The official run in Sydney is April 6th 2025, but I will be travelling on this day, so I will complete my 10KM run on Saturday 29th of March 2025.
Let’s come together to raise essential funds for this incredible charity.
